FAQ

Questions Australian buyers ask us

Getting started

Do I need to be a business to import through Solvanta?

No. Businesses and individuals can both import. For commercial quantities an ABN makes things easier. For questions about GST, please ask your accountant.

Is there a minimum order?

Custom orders start at 500 pieces per design. For ready-made and surplus stock, minimums depend on the supplier and the lot, and your quotation shows them.

What do I need to send to get a quote?

The product, roughly how many you need, your target price if you have one, and when you need it. Photos, links, sketches or a sample you already own all help. Use the enquiry form or email us.

Is the quote free?

Yes. Your first quotation is free and there is no obligation to order.

Customs, duty and GST

Who clears the goods through Australian customs?

You do, as the importer of record. Most buyers use a licensed customs broker, who lodges the import declaration and arranges payment of duty and GST. We ship from Bangladesh or Dubai and supply all the export documents your broker needs.

How much duty and GST will I pay?

It depends on your goods, and your customs broker can confirm the rates. Once you have them, our landed cost calculator helps you plan your margin.

Will I pay duty on goods from Bangladesh?

Check with your customs broker, who can confirm the current rate and any preference for your goods. We supply a certificate of origin supplied with your export documents so your broker can make any claim that applies.

Will I pay duty on goods from Dubai?

Check with your customs broker. What we can tell you is where the goods were really made: we state the country of manufacture on every invoice, and supply a certificate of origin where one is available.

Products and compliance

Can you supply treatment certificates for handicrafts?

Yes. We ask makers for clean, well-finished goods and arrange fumigation or treatment certificates on request. Your customs broker can confirm what your goods need.

Can you supply surplus or left-over clothing?

Yes. Bangladeshi garment factories regularly have new, unworn stock left over from overruns, cancelled orders and end-of-season production. Lots vary in styles, sizes and colours, so we send photos, video and a packing list before you pay. Prices are per piece or per lot, and we supply new, unworn stock only.

Can surplus clothing carry my own labels?

Yes. Surplus stock comes ready for your own labels, with the original brand labels and branded trims removed. For any question about brands, your customs broker or a lawyer can help.

Can you make custom clothing to my own design?

Yes. Send a sketch, tech pack or photos of what you like, with quantities and sizes. We help with fabric and trims, make a sample for your approval, then produce in bulk with your labels, swing tags and packaging. Custom orders start at 500 pieces per design.

Can you supply bedsheets made to Australian sizes?

Yes. Bangladeshi home-textile mills make sheet sets, fitted and flat sheets, quilt covers and pillowcases to Australian bed sizes, from single to super king, in cotton percale, sateen, poly-cotton or microfibre, with your own labels and packaging. Thread count and fibre content are confirmed in writing.

Can you put my brand on the products?

Yes. Printed, embroidered, embossed or woven labels, swing tags and custom packaging are all possible. We only produce designs and logos you own or are licensed to use.

How do you check quality?

You approve a sample first. Before dispatch we check the goods against that sample for materials, measurements, finish, labelling and packing, and send you photos. Independent third-party inspection can be arranged on request.

Shipping

How long does shipping take?

It depends on the route, carrier and season. Air freight and courier take days; sea freight takes weeks. Production time comes on top. Each quote gives an estimated timeline for your order.

Which Australian ports do you ship to?

Sea freight usually goes to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Fremantle (Perth) or Adelaide. Air freight and courier go to the major international airports.

Do you work with Australian businesses outside Sydney?

Yes. We work with buyers across Australia, including Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, by email.
